Steps to bring medication into Poland

SCHENGEN COUNTRIES

OAT and PSYCHOTROPIC MEDICATIONS:

A separate certificate is required for each narcotic drug/psychotropic substance prescribed.

  • Contact a competent authority (this is most often national pharmaceutical inspectorate) in your country to request an approval to travel with medicines within Schengen area.
  • You will need a certificate from your doctor confirming that you are undergoing treatment and need to carry your medication.
  • Fill in required application.
  • Once you have the approval, you can bring your medication across borders within Schengen area.
  • Addresses of the relevant authorities in some countries (they may be out of date):

OTHER MEDICATIONS:
If you wish to transport other medicines you should have a doctor’s certificate confirming the necessity of their use. It is possible to bring no more than 5 packs of a medicinal product to Poland for one’s own use, provided that it does not contain narcotic or psychotropic substances.

NON-SCHENGEN

You need to find out, through relevant authority (most often national pharmaceutical inspectorate) in your country, what the procedure is for obtaining approval for the export of a medicine. It is different in each country. Often certificate allowing taking a medication through the border is required. But not always!

Entering Poland with the medicine:

  • Fill out the attached application form.
  • Get a certificate from your doctor confirming that you are undergoing treatment and need to carry your medication.
  • Send the documents (application and a certificate) by post or by courier service to:

    00-082 Warszawa, Polska
  • Send a scan or tracking number to Magda Bartnik (bartniku@gmail.com), our conference partner in Poland.
  • Wait for approval
The Polish Inspectorate will review your application and send you approval by post.
This approval will allow you to import your medication into Poland.

Posting an Application
Central Pharmaceutical Inspectorate can only post an approval through Polish Post.
It would be better (and faster!) to send an application (it has to be in the original, signed, not scanned) using one of courier companies. We can then deliver it directly to the Inspectorate and the approval will be send by them by post.
